Birthing a Rock-Opera into 3D existence is not a task for the light hearted.
It will demand your energy, your spirit, time, attention & resources, but it is surely a less daunting endeavor "with a little help from my friends" : From writing to producing, from playing & recording to editing and mixing, these stages have been historically executed in the entrails of this soaring fish by myself as a solo work surrounded by machines, instruments, DAWs VSTi’s automation, and the typical “hit REC and run to the microphone” kind of situation.
And even if the former creative steps will most likely remain a solitary effort, lately I’ve slowly grown more and more comfortable with the experience of sharing these other producing, playing and recording tasks with none other than… humans.
Yes, I first started with “Carnival of Souls” (2019) working some stages, particularly Art and Mastering with some close earthlings. By “El Pez Que Voló – ACT I” (2023) I had even ventured to direct myself (both digitally & physically) several singing humans from diverse parts of the globe. And I must admit it was a fun experience!
In this particular solar journey, known as year 2024, I wanted to keep exploring this strange interaction for EPQV2, so the equation was similar: I worked in my spaceship on the creative and pre-producing steps and then launched myself across the planet inviting talented singing individuals who’d like to join me in this fishy choir. However, this time I went even further… instead of playing and recording all instruments myself like a multi-extremity octopus bot from space, I too collaborated with amazing instrumentalists: a drummer, 2 violinists and a trombonist particularly. All of them brought an amazing new array of colors and expression to this flying fish sono-verse.
In order of abduction recording date:
Fabio Lione (Italy)
This legendary power metal singer/dragon-slaying maestro Fabio Lione
(Rhapsody Of Fire / Angra) interprets a mysterious fellow. Fabio's potent
vocals were delivered fantastically, as he fully immersed in his knightly
character for the upcoming adventure of this strange soaring fish.
Margil H. Vallejo (México)
Who returns in his role as the giant catfish (Namazöoh) singing with the
perfect blend between musical theatre feeling and classical technique,
as well as supporting choirs with his baritonesque voice. Lead singer in the
prog metal band The Advent Equation. Quite a fun afternoon!
Javier Garagarza (México)
The human drum machine, with all his rhythmic precision, product of
much study, talent and total immersion in the project. A marathonic
all-day session that was both efficient and productive, thanks also to
the impeccable engineering work of Charles A Leal at Psicofonía Studio.
Myrthala Bray (México)
This classically trained soprano and lead singer from symphonic prog metal
band Mutum comes back in her role as Aleekanto, mother bird, as well as
providing powerful and expressive high and mid operatic choirs plus
voice acting for the whole album. A strong well-rounded performance.
Monica Lyrae (México)
Highly skilled musician, lead singer, composer and arranger of her
homonymous solo project, as well as producer of score soundtracks for
short films. Monica brought some beautiful mixture of voice acting plus
low/mezzo choirs with her soulful haunting vocals.
Denisse Arriaga (México)
Multi-discipline artist: actress, dancer and singer. The "triple threat"
performing talents of Denisse are the creative force behind her musical
project Aldeni. She brought her musical theater skills to EPQV2 providing
vocal acting, stunning high (and whistle!) notes, as well as sweet choirs.
Davidavi Dolev (Israel)
Straight from Haifa, comes this multifaceted singer with a tremendous
set of pipes whose power can only be matched by his versatility. Lead
vocals to Omb, Reign of the Architect, Seventh Station & Subterranean
Masquerade, Vidi brought to this fishy album a varied array of styles
and emotional vocal acting, a very meticulous performance that featured
his whole vocal arsenal including some classical operatic sounds.
Ottoegil Sætre (Norway)
CEO of Gymnocal Industries, granted by Lady Gaga herself the title “Owner
of the Best Hair of All Time”, this Norwegian party monster from Bergen is
the lead man (writing, guitars, vocals) behind Ottorpedo, and has played in
Optima Rubra, Devar, Big Buffalo Jim, Betatt & probably many more. Otto
brought some power vocals, unhinged takes & quirky voice acting, letting
his musical/acting skills shine through his appearances across the album.
Sebastián A. García (México)
Member of the Orquesta Filarmonica del Desierto (Saltillo) and just
returning from his Chinese residency, Sebastián's string talents were
recorded in an intense session in Psicofonia Studio, where he managed
to give soul and fire to the multiple solo and ensamble violin sections
throughout the album. His technique and delivery won’t go unnoticed
for the trained ear!
Saša Olenjuk (Slovenia)
This extremely talented violin veteran from Maribor Slovenia (Devil Doll's
violin, First chair in the Slovenian Philarmonic Orchestra, Concertmaster
at SNG Opera Ballet Symphony Orchestra) honored this fish by bringing
thelast track of the album “Love Thyself” to life with his Slavic spirit & taste-
ful melodic expressionism. Giving perfect closure to this cavernous album.
Alex Manley (United States of America)
From the state of Virginia, Alex's talent landed him a First Trombone
position at the Symphonic Orchestra of the UANL. His classical sound &
dynamic touch brought a new dimension to the newest musical
adventure of Teezûck. You can't miss his espressivo Trombone-Violin
duet in "By a Padder" & "Love Thyself".
Oscar Martínez (México)
This virtuoso veteran, Oscar, is a baritone from Monterrey who has had a
pretty extensive carreer in the Opera circles . His roles as Figaro (The
Barber of Seville), Marcello (La bohemé) & Dulcamara (L'elisir d' amore),
positioned him highly. This time he joins the fishy choir providing operatic
vocals packed with bravura and a chilling, intense delivery.
